of course these movement names are an approximation from my own independent research since i have not had a chance to ask sifu what the names are, especially since the senior students didn't seem to know. maybe it's just me but names are important & give me a sense of where i am in the game. of course sifu may not feel that way at all about it & as the names are not posted like the shaolin movements, i am not entirely sure i want to ask him. i remember when heng ji's uncle nick trained at temple in qi gong & for years never knew the names of the movements. he finally got around to asking sifu but it took his completion of the 12 or so movements before sifu wrote it down for him in chinese! this should be a lesson to me but i will ask him at some point, i know me.
last night he taught me a new movement (further into the new movement) which racked my knees. i had already popped my knees a few times over the longish weekend with the snapdragon so i have to make sure i warm up all the joints with care & even get a sweat on before working on my chen style tai chi training. but learning something new last night was quite great & made me superhappy despite the fatigue & the weariness of having to carry home my snapdragon who met me at the temple. she is especially heavy when she dozes in the carrier. still progress is progress & i am excited about working out this new movement & finding the cadences in the other one.
in watching the more senior students, i can see lots of great fun coming in the future with more explosions & combining a lot of shaolin stances & kicks into chen style tai chi. my calves especially feel the stretch midway through the class & the incessant popping of my shoulder & wrists, as well as hips & ankles, remind me that i need to train harder! funny that the new move is called lazy about tying coat as it inspires more chi! more chi!
