inspire myself

i missed training last night (again) due to the "gas leak" [if you have been reading along then you'll know what i mean] so quan tuo & i instead watched BRUCE LEE: A WARRIOR'S JOURNEY which i have to say i liked a lot & it inspired me to consider my training yet again. his message was clear: the only way you will get better is to train harder & push yourself. all the same stuff sifu says. however Bruce Lee does not believe in any particular way. this from a man trained in many styles of martial arts & who created his own art jeet kun do aptly named the way of the penetrating fist. i have to say that appeals to me. of course he has all this training & can at that point reject the dogma associated. i am not there, yet. although i did train in other things & see the simplicity of Bruce Lee's art which focused on anticipating an attack & attacking first. defensive, i would call it though some may not agree. i know master zulu & sensei lutak would agree too. the next step is to act - to train & be more consistent.
quan tuo is right - despite the fact that learning something new is exciting, one can always hone down to specifics little adjustments & lessons repeatedly learned so as not to repeat errors. after the film we stretched together & did some training, for strength & to wake up the muscles. man! i am so lucky that we can & do train together & i want to be more active in that inspiration & action.
as my blog is more about my shaolin training & is really for me, here are things i need to work on on each of the basics that will lend to the forms i have learned:
caijiao - more pop, go faster
gongbu - lower, push with the furthest end of the foot, strike, stay low in movement, keep the upper body facing forward
lunbi caijiao - get the left side to where the right side is
mabu - lower, stay low in movement, open up the chest before the strike, look forward first
cetutui - find that hollow in the hip, effortless up & pop on the way down, no bouncing
xubu - lower, arm straight, snap should be altogether
erjijao - both sides
shuangtui quitiao - explode like a fire cracker
fanyao - both sides
tsabu - open up the chest & be vertical
pubu changzhang lunbi zaquan - full stances, slap that floor, keep arms close to the body & pause before the end, both sides
tantui - raise knee higher, straight palm & fist strikes
tengkong fanyao - i need to work this more
ceshoufan - both sides
lihetui - faster with more pop
waibaitui - up first before over then behind
zhengtantui - even more pop
tengkong holiatui - strike forward
focusing on these will help my forms tremendously. i am excited to learn some erluquan but frankly i am happy to focus on the ones i already know so i can sharpen up. no rush, i will be training forever. more training at home or outside temple hours.
