it has been a long arse time since i felt my hamstrings sore! when i got to temple, my calves were tight, tight, tight! somewhere along the warm-up they got a little better or i forgot about them in the GO! GO! GO! aspect of basic drills. sifu started to yell to me about straight legs in gongbu then he saw it was straight (HA!) so he yelled about keeping my body facing forward. always something. it was the front kicks that did my hammies in! owwwwie! but i made it thru the entire class even yangshen yunshuo although i thought i was going to die with the number of ceshoufans we had to do, faster & faster & man, was i dizzy! i tried to watch quan tuo doing his one handed ceshoufans but i was seeing double there! stretch was great! sucheela & shir (charlotte) pulled me all out & stretched me sehr gut! then i stretched all by myself for a bit before LINE UP was called & back we were with waibaitui & zhengtutui (hands down my favourite because somehow i still have the energy at that point to really pop!) then forms! i only got to do one chuji quantao in the long line of folks for forms when sifu started pulling folks into groups to work on stuff. there was the slight tease of possibly learning erluquan although it thrilled me for a sec, it didn't manifest & that's ok, i got to work about 9 times straight through in yiluquan, slowing it down, lowering stances, working out that strange cross caijao. i was strangely exhausted after 3 runs in a row. but heng neng really worked us good & added some helpful & critical adjustments. maybe erluquan next time. who knows?
it's funny, it is hard not to get a bit jealous when folks training with you or started after you are now ahead of you in forms. but really what does that mean? all our kung fu is very different. all our energy levels. some folks are lucky to be able to go 4-5 times a week! i know i always say i do shaolin my way & quan tuo & i butt heads about this because he believes there is only the shaolin way. so we all must do what we can & progress according to our best ability. this is why MORE CHI! TRAIN HARDER! take it as you will. i do.
