i thought i was going to train dayclass today but no! i am at a HR meeting at the moment, pulled in last minute to, as sifu says, represent! boooring! luckily i have this laptop...
re subject line: ah the bane of my existence! got to training early but not my usual hour ahead (i got sidetracked by looking at dresses for my cousin's wedding this weekend but no such luck since all the dresses are kinda slutty or badly made or horrors: a tie up in the back, may have to go with an old standby but anyhoo) so after changing, i kept the top of my uniform off (it was thick & sweltering at temple) going with a tank top & did several ceshoufans to warm me up & quick! lots of the usual suspects were there so there were alot of hellos & kisses before class started. so great! when class started i was really warm already. i didn't feel that i was going LOW enough but the pace is fairly quick so we do what we can. i warmed up with a few pubus & gongbus, keeping things as low as i can with the shoulders square with the hips too! it paid off when we did that in line, despite sifu walking right into me! i got through a couple of yangshen yunshous when i was sent to kung fu kindergarten to practice some more. i was working hard on trying to keep my arm straight & in the end sifu said that wasn't the problem. it is that my arm snaps back (i.e. i move it somehow) between the first section of the move & the pivot. so like yanghsen yunshou hell made just for me, i had to do that for 45 minutes, first with heng de (who was so supportive & gave me good pointers) on the carpet then with sifu against the column then by myself against the wall, where i had to dodge the guys practicing tengkong fanyao. i understand what i am doing wrong, now it's just a matter of correcting myself & having that eventually come naturally. but since i only do yangshen yunshou on one side, i really tweaked my hip from pivoting & pivoting & pivoting. the balance is easy enough for me. ah train harder!
it was a good 3man stretch with qbertplaya & hannah. oh the shaolin inches became shaolin feet! more chi!
hannah & i then approached a brand new student & helped stretch him out. this isn't entirely out of the goodness of my heart. it is imperative everyone know how to do this as it avoids injury to themselves or others down the line.
a group of us went to thai son after for what i was hoping was a quick meal but alas! it is never the case with the kung fu brothers. quan tuo did speak to the management about getting us a discount since we eat there everyday practically, or someone from USAST goes there every day. good idea!
quan tuo remarked no one noticed his beard was gone. i immediately noticed his hair cut. it may take a minute for folks to see clearly again after the perspiration & cloud leaves their eyes after training. the shaolin haze! everything shaolin!
so the moral: yangshen yunshou to both sides, keep arms straight & do not move them, take a sec in between the first part & pivot for the arm, go lower on all stances, get some underarmour tanks to wear!! it's already a 3 uniform kind of practice with the heat & humidity. i only have the one so i need to arm myself properly.
more chi!
