vacation time line

so much to retell, i am not sure i have the energy so here is a workable time line after 29 july. assume that unless i say otherwise, most activities are with quan tuo:

monday - arrived camp sacramento, immediately went rock hopping & was lanced by a rogue tree, great introduction to camp & the nurse; the first social "meet & greet" over drinks, cabin #48 away from the maddening crowds, private bathroom (well, practically)
tuesday - golf at apple mountain where i drove the cart around & wrote intermittently, hilly course, good fun bright & early in the morning until one of our companions got terribly sick & eventually was rushed to the hospital due to high blood pressure. he was my age, people!, watched quan tuo play volleyball

wednesday - scaled mount ralson which is no easy feat since we took the hard climb (unbeknownst to me at the time!) in 2 hours & took us half hour shorter to run down the hill then i was treated to a slammin' milkshake & watched monsters inc with the kiddies; we tried unsuccessfully to find this meadow above camp but thank god the jeep is hardy! plus quan tuo had to drive in reverse to get out of these trails! by far the filthiest day there
thursday - fishing at echo lake, quan tuo caught a 6" rainbow trout that i unhooked & released back into the water with a shaolin flick of the wrist, drove around beautiful hillsides then drove into nevada for quan tuo to gamble at the casinos, i saw ratatouille which was great, also hung around the craps table & i think i may have finally figured it out! pizza around the Y (not what you think) area
friday - pope beach where gratuitous frolicking & laying about is a wonderful combination, on the way a short side visit to the burned areas in tahoe, milkshake again, quick packie run since i was out of my delicious nat shermans

saturday - quan tuo left at crack of dawn to play at a poker tournament. martha & i drove down to sacramento together, picked up our jeep rental & returned it then proceeded to their lovely friends, the colsons, where we were to spend the night. they had a nice bbq for us, quan tuo & i managed to get a milkshake & some thai food in before that of course, as well as a quick nap & watched (most of) finding nemo.
sunday - french toast & bacon for breakfast, said our adieus to the colmans & headed off to lalaland. quick ride all in all, not the prettiest route but the most direct,
i love the F150, when we arrived quan tuo's brother wes & wendy went out to dinner & bloody marys with us. we caught the simpsons movie afterwards.
monday - quan tuo up early to play golf with wes & i lounged around, finished HP7, napped, emailed. it was the laziest day ever!
tuesday - newport beach for last minute sun & play, milkshakes & rootbeer float before packing up & heading to the aeroport where we had bloody marys & jack & coke before our flight.

wednesday - so-called tornado in brooklyn & nasty weather had us circling jfk for an hour before being diverted to maryland for refueling. 3 hours later we are in ny, with little immediate sign of any weather trouble, that is until the near 2 hour cab ride & $75 we are home to the glee of my wonderful boyos! the rest of the day was taken up by naps (since i was exhausted being the only one awake the whole plane ride) then dog walks then straight to the bar where qbertplaya came out to celebrate our return!
quick note: camp sac was all about eating. i was warned that there would be bells to let you know when to eat, much like pavlovian dogs. since we were away from most of the other cabins, i rarely heard the bells & was determined not to be awakened by them. it didn't matter, we were up anyway most of the time. the food was pretty decent actually. you can imagine my joy at seeing an asian & mexican kitchen staff! the eating times were strange. dinner was grandpa time but there were so many snacks & treats around 9pm. of course we had our libations & snacks in our cabin. quan tuo even managed to get access to the fridge one night when it was closed down.
it was cool that quan tuo had spent a lot of time there as a kid so i had my own personal guide so we need not do any of the activities. my only regret is missing archery but i was stuck at the casino watching very depressing people lose parts of their souls in small increments & denominations. thank god for the rat chef! really lifted the spirits.
quan tuo spent lots of time playing cards with his mom & their little group of friends who were supersweet to me. i smoked & read & wrote, usually near his dad who told quan tuo later that he could have been more attentive to me! hee4. yes, one point for me! he did tell his dad that if there is one person who is self-sufficient & enjoys alone time it is yours truly! his mom & i got to know each other well & i made her some beet salad that she loved as well as some guacamole at the colsons with extra garlic fun.
like i have previously said, this is the first vacation we have taken together longer than 5 days & it was great. although we are invited back to camp & even scheduled our cabin for next year, with so little time & money i would prefer to go elsewhere even though this was a great singular experience, especially for me, being the city dweller i am to the core.
ah good times & traveling with quan tuo is awesome.
