it's great to be home

although not at work which, despite the AC keeping me a tad chilly all day, is so busy & i have been told by my boss once again that i can never leave for holiday again! ha!

i promised a recap but i doubt i'll get to it in it's entirety so here is a teaser:

28 july
once the dogs were safely deposited with my friend kat & in her car, they couldn't care less that i was leaving town. quan tuo & i took off without incident & had a 2seater spot in the back of the plane. we were in chicago for longer than the plane ride but i did enjoy delicious bloody marys at the bar after his tummy felt better (from greasy chinese since i insisted on eating rice goddammit for fear it would be the last time in 10 days!). [our holidays were all about the outdoors, great bloody marys & thick black & white milkshakes!] we board thereafter & find that we don't have a 3rd seatmate so it was stretch out time on the way to sacramento. we get there & it's chilly! or i felt chilly. we picked up our rental, a girly jeep liberty, then headed off to his friend flea's house. he was quite accomodating & funny. we went to bed fairly early from a combination of jetlag (though we were ok really) & having to get up early the next day.

29 july
up at 6:30am, it's semi-dark out. we head out to meet a friend of flea's who has a boat & we go to folsom lake for some wake-boarding. mind you, i didn't attempt it as i am not a good swimmer but it was quite fun to watch people fall flat on their faces or have trouble getting going. it was quintessential california moment: getting up at the crack of dawn to surf. the lake was superwarm, witness i actually went into the water to soak around a bit once quan tuo was in it. it was tubwater - easily 80 degrees. i was happy & famished, here it was almost 11am & we hadn't eaten anything other than a breakfast burrito (not my fave, but the chorizo was tasty!). so we got back & change & head out for a proper lunch at this spot on the american river & had delicious bloody marys & steak salad & garlic steak sandwich. so yummy!
this was followed by a quick nap then off we went to spend the evening at quan tuo's cousins who were supersweet & we kept them up pretty late considering they had to work the next day.
