[this photo quan tuo sent me to give me an idea of camp sac]
we have lots of stuff going on in the next weeks. this weekend we head to a kung fu retreat in the hamptons leaving fri night after L2 training & returning sometime on sunday. one of our brothers is so sweet to invite us to their summer house! it'll be more like a camping weekend with lots of kung fu on the beach & assorted other places. i don't even know what to bring! i am sure quan tuo has solid ideas or a running list already.
the following weekend we head off to lake tahoe - camp sacramento. quan tuo has been vacationing there with his family for most of his life though he hasn't been in the last few years. we just finalized our itinerary & it should be a good time. of course i have none of these camp-related things in my possession. i should review that list he gave me. i plan on bringing along the new harry potter (to be in my greedy little hands on the 23rd) & maybe it's time to reread william volmman's the iceshirt which i love, love, love! we'll have to see what books i can snag from friends before the trip.
quan tuo & i vacation well together, i am happy to report. we both like to drive, drive a similar speed & style. he is much more a planner than i am but i am happy to go anywhere, do anything, really. i look forward to having the time to write & lay about. though i am worried that i may be sucked into some game-playing - that's not my deal. i am happy to watch or keep scores or whatever. maybe i'll finally learn to play poker well, who knows?
also he was a camp counselor there for many years & i will get my own private hike trails with him. oh adventures!
at this point, i am glad to have some time away from the city & explore lake tahoe which i haven't visited since that summer in 1985, i imagine it's changed. frankly i barely remember anything but being thrown out of the casino for being underaged!
we will drive back to LA with quan tuo's mom so i hope we take pacific coast hwy instead of the smelly slaughterhouse route. it should be interesting regardless.
my only regret is that this is yet another couple of trips without my dogs. i am still sorting out where they will go & with whom for camp sac. i already have dogowner friends watching them this upcoming weekend. mac & tentoes would love an adventure with us. must sort that out.
oh to be clear, i am not the camping type. i have gone camping exactly twice & it wasn't unsuccessful per say but many would say at least one of those was not exactly camping. who knows what the rules are? we actually have a cabin to sleep in & his parents will be bringing all the beddings (from LA) so i am looking forward to such a hide away. again, i am sure i will provide a full report upon my return.
