weekend fun

amituofo! another great weekend, here is a quick recap:

friday
after leaving work (turning down free drinks with my colleagues) i got home to find quan tuo resting his turf toe (it looked pretty bruised up!) & the dogs raring to go out. the sky was darkening & fast so i grabbed the dogs & headed off to meet katkayla at ben & tracey's shop to meet annabel, leaving quan tuo to rest some more. annabel is a very sweet, quiet & petite baby, she managed to sleep through all the talking, barking & noise at the shop with relative ease. i held her for a little while, (deftly) managing not to perspire on her & was so surprised how light she was! tracey & ben look very happy, not at all exhausted as they could have been. it was so great to meet her & look forward to her growing up before our eyes! mac & ten were very interested in her. mac gave her a lick & ten smelled her for a bit then decided to sit & watch her. he'd make such a good babysitter! we did see katkayla on the way to pete's candystore where they were all going to cool off. i, unfortunately, had to run because of kung fu movie night!
attendance was on the small side but we really had great fun! the movie was ok, tugging the heartstrings regarding tony jaa's relationship to his elephants (middle class family!). the subtitles were ridiculous & sent all of us into peals of laughter at the most inappropriate moments. it appeared that the original thai was then translated to chinese (bootleg) then to english so most of it made absolutely no sense. the few fight scenes were great but honestly, it was so funny everyone was dying!
many of us hung out after to chitchat. quan tuo, billy of the blue vipers, his gf trisha & i were among the last to leave. we headed back to w'burg together to another bar then to eat, getting home in the wee hours of the morning.

saturday
a good long walk with the dogs was in order since we slept in so late. we headed off to the dogpark with a few stops along the way then to the farmer's market & to pick up lunch. it was hot out! the threat of rain never manifested & the dogs were tongues to the ground! both quan tuo & i got some colour just from walking around. we went home to lunch & chill a bit before heng jian arrived (early).
jian, his gf britta, her roommate rema, quan tuo & i headed out to jones beach late in the afternoon. it was a haul going there due to traffic but well worth it when we arrived to an almost empty beach. the winds were strong & wonderful! the sand was warm & strangely one made crunchy noises when walking (think corduroy swooshing against itself) & the water was warmer than in LA near a month ago! we had good fun: jian, quan tuo & i practiced kung fu movements sans kicks, forms & stretched! i learned a bit more of xuanzi (jian: you aren't supposed to be learning that!) but mostly we trained in level 1 moves. i love kung fu on the beach! britta & rema were watching us the whole time, no doubt thinking how silly we were! there was some laying around too (very little), quan tuo & i went to walk a mile or so to explore (& find a bathroom). it was lovely! thereafter we bbq'ed in the delegated area. it was much colder then & the sun had just completely gone when we got ready to go! i was tired from all that sun & surf & wind, taking small naps on the ride home. boyos got a quick walk then it was time for bed!

sunday
a good portion of the morning was dry so the boyos & i played next door while quan tuo picked up lunch for us. it was good fun! after lunch, we all took a nap but i managed to read & write a bit too! the rain came down (continuing on all night) so it was perfect nap time!
in the early evening we went to charles & nina's place to play pool & hang out. i even played some pool while we drank wine & ordered pizza, snacking on cherries. the dogs (5 in all) wrestled & alternately pouted around! it was a nice time. more pool playing ahead.

fun weekend. although we didn't train, we stretched a bit which is so important. great to hang out with kung fu brothers & with dogowner friends. great to just nap sunday afternoon away, so decadent! dano was in town too but we didn't end up hanging out. i'll see him & the rest of the family next week.

maybe if quan tuo & i can get my camera, i mean phone, sorted out, i can download some photos to show of our jones beach adventure.
