a good group of shaolin brothers (even the girls are brothers) are going to jones beach tomorrow after training. it has been wonderful weather (especially for sleep) the last few days & it will be in the high 70s tomorrow. perfect for shaolin stretch & training & for most non-kung fu people to leave the beach! when we last went to jones beach in the late afternoon we had the place to ourselves, literally! since we will be coming from training we will already be sweaty & sadly a tad stinky winky. i hope the water is warm enough for a dip. i cannot wait to loaf around on the sand, go for long walks with quan tuo & to play like the kids we really are. i just have to make sure my boyos get a great & exhausting walk before training so i need not worry for the 12 hours they will be all by their lonesome (as all good overlords do). i only wish some of our dear brothers could make it this time but people have lives outside shaolin kung fu (i need remind myself) but the summer is young & there will be ample time to have other outings & soon!
i have to admit that i am a bit of beach snob. the last several years i have only entertained going to the beach if i am in another country where the water is 80 degrees (that is a glorious thing) since what is the point of going to the beach to sunbathe when you cannot get relief from the sun in the surf? but my recent trip to la-la-land & the reality kick that water is colder almost everywhere outside mexico, hawaii & asia forced me to enjoy what is around me. in my youth in new england, we spent many a summer in ogunquit maine where it was bloody cold & somehow we managed to enjoy ourselves anyway. also i would prefer a swimming pool to the beach but beggars cannot be too picky! there is much to enjoy in the north east & i intend to do just that with my shaolin friends! here's to a great saturday at the beach!
next up - a beach that will allow dogs!
more chi!!
