winter has not been that bad. i prefer the cold to the heat, mostly because i grew up in sticky tropical climate where you went from air conditioned house to air conditioned school & so on. also because you can always get warmer if cold. the reverse isn't always true. plus winter is all about having the right gear. if you live in the north east, you would be a fool not to invest in comfortable, durable & warm winter gear! fashion doesn't do it. utitlity does.
besides my dogs LOVE the snow & cold weather oh so much. makes you look at things a tad differently.
today is a beautiful day in the city. it's currently 76 degrees in the city. it's lovely.
of course one cannot trust weather will last so we must enjoy it as much as possible. the likelihood of drastic change is always apparent.
it's a terrible day to sit at the office.
the morning romp with the boyos was most enjoyable. it stunned me that there weren't more people out. i do live in a late start neighborhood. mostly i don't mind because only dog owners are out & about, as well as the exercise folks. things don't start in our neighborhood til about 11. by then, my dogs are out like a light from a good runabout & yummy breakfast. i am usually already at the office by then too.
today i had lunch with my cousins & they are always a good time for me, if not for one another. i needed a good filling lunch today for shaolin kung fu training tonight. i only have a few hours to digest it - so very important to avoid cramps while jumping about.
quan tuo is at a conference & cannot train with me but we did go over what we considered to be important points to practice for me:
1. higher arm position
2. follow the hand
3. correct mabu
4. keep my wrist straight
5. keep arms straight, not really locked.
truly these are points of disdain for me. they are the most difficult things indeed. but it's good to remember & must be corrected. i am the only one that can do it, unfortunately.
i was considering creating braces for my arms to keep them straight. you know, just walking around with them tucked into my jacket but it will severely curtail my ability.
straight arms also reminds me of an electric company or sesame street episode where these two characters learned cooperation. one had only straight arms & could get the fruit from the tree but not into his mouth. the other had only bent arms so he could not get the fruit from the tree but could get it into his mouth. so the straight armed guy got the fruit & dropped it. the bent armed guy picked it up & fed it to the former then himself. cooperation.
how does this help me in kung fu? i have no clue. however, it did give me a smile remembering that funny episode.
MORE CHI!
