last night at training during pubu chuanzhang lunbi zaquan, js sid nailed me so hard in the forearm during the arm rotations. my god it hurt so much i thought he broke it! i must have yelled so loud because people kept checking on me. i kept training despite the wicked, throbbing pain. i was able to train through it all except the push-ups in the end when i tried to be the one-armed boxer but that didn't work too well or too long. when i approached js about it, he had no idea he hit me. incredible! how can something with such impact not be noticed? he did apologize but i have to do things a bit differently.
moreover, quan tuo in his infinite wisdom (taste the bitter sarcasm here) said i should know better. this made me so angry:
(1) yes i have trained in contact martial arts before BUT everyone needs to practice a measure of control when drilling moves, kicking, punching & throws. you can get seriously hurt at any time IF you cannot trust that you & your mates will practice control.
(2) in the same past training, i know where to field blows in the arms & legs, where to block. shaolin kung fu is no contact so you aren't exactly expecting to be hit & so hard!
(3) last night's class was on the large side & people don't stay in their space or are not aware of who is around them. it is for everyone to be more aware.
(4) most of the moves we practice should be able to be fully executed in a narrow space. i can't count how many times we have been asked to envision being between two walls & have just the width of your body to work with.
i just happened to be in the wrong place at the very wrong time last night. but i think it's a good lesson learned. i will be more aware next time & at all costs avoid certain folks in class who are notorious for flailing about. there is a quiet little list.
i was actually glad to be pulled off to the side due to my yangshen yunshuo which sifu said i should take my time in. the pain in my arm was pulsating. it's not at all chill-city in the back. if anything, we get a lot of sifu time in the last hour of class. i would have liked to practice the forms but i can do that on my own & should more often.
thanks to qbertplayer for the ibuprofen. i don't have such things at the flat. a small group went to eat after training & it turned out that another group along with trickling individuals went to the same place so we had 2 full tables together. always great to decompress & restock energy with my brothers.
moreover, skarbakka & i had great train chi on the way back to the hood. in all, it was lickety split getting home.
i didn't end up icing my bruise. i basically took the boyos out for a break, hand-washed my uniform, stretched while in the shower & tried on my new frye sandals which are slammin'! hello spring!
looking forward to quan tuo coming home tonight. one night away is just too much. the boyos kept patrolling & waiting up for him. sweet.
more chi!
stay aware!
