we spent friday night through sunday afternoon in the hampton's at a shaolin brother's parents' place. we all met at temple around 9 with food for the L2 folks, we chowed down then headed off in 3 cars. the ride wasn't too bad except there were a few alternate roads to use, access roads, while the highway was undergoing roadwork. it slowed things down a bit but when we got there, it was great! lots of beer already chillin' in the cooler. quan tuo & i scored our own room (he was sad that he couldn't find the tent poles...) & people played WEII boxing til the wee hours. they all made silly characters that looked eerily like them!
saturday - everyone was up early & we all trekked a half mile to a breakfast spot. it was bloody marys & crabcakes for me. we all had good meals & to our surprise, heng de's father paid for our meal! so sweet! back to the house, got ready for the beach, were driven in waves (we were first wave) & spent a good 7 hours on the beach. it was beautiful! the water wasn't too too bad, either! quan tuo & i walked around here & there to smoke & have privacy but mostly everyone played around doing kung fu jumps, stretches, forms, staff, cartwheels, kicks, you name it! we attracted a lot of attention since no one sat down for quite a while. once the sun really hit it's zenith people played cards & chilled out. it was good fun. after a few hours in the sun, i decided to sit under the umbrella, it was nice & refreshing. i got a bit of a tan. there was a shower at the beach so we did that en masse so as not to use up all the hotwater at the house. then quan tuo & i decided to stroll back the mile or so which was awesome. i got a king cone & he got some jerky for the walk. we saw some deer & a bunny wabbit. we saw the carload of kung fu friends shuttle back & forth. it was fun. we returned to find a lovely bbq set up for us: burgers, guacamole, mozzarella & tomatos, grilled vegetables, delicious corn, restocked cold beer & water. so great. billy of the vipers brought his projector which was set up in the backyard & we watched wing chung with michelle yeoh. it was wonderful out! a tad chilly though. then there was more WEII playing but i decided to chill out & read part of a robert ludlum book. we woke up on the later side sunday but lay about listening to our brothers running around. people were already working on cartwheels & kicks on the grass & no one felt much like really training. got some hammock time in with quan tuo. when the WEII game started off again, a few of us went to the town & got some ice cream (black & white milk shake for me!) & picked up a $100 gift certificate for our lovely hosts. when we returned hours later, we missed a couple of chess games made of lego (awesome), a crochet game or two, who knows how many card games, several WEII games of golf, & tanks. man, shaolin folks have boundless energy! this is one of the reasons it's so great to hang. we got ready to go around 4 & though there was traffic, we made excellent time thanks to our patient & slick driver richu. am so glad we rode with him.
we were home by 6pm & my dogsitter friends were at the house watching planet earth. boyos were happy to have us home! we ordered in some mexicano & each took turns on the computer before getting ready for bed. we did watch human weapon - a new show about 2 mixed martial arts dudes going around the world learning martial arts from the source & having to fight at the end of each episode. it was mae muay thai last night. the hosts are not terribly interesting but the history is & of course the training is! quan tuo & i should have our own show, it would be much more fun!
now back at the office where it's so difficult to keep my eyes open, what with the cooler temps outside, the heavy rain, the knowledge that quan tuo & boys are home & yeah my serious lack of interest in work today! will have to muster through!
more chi!
