scaredy cats

actually this is about my dogs & their friend nina who is staying over for a few days & their unbelievable fear of thunder. the thunder has been rolling in all day & now it's getting to be right on top of us (though without the rain just yet) & everyone is freaking out! machiavelli began cultivating his fear around 4 yos & now almost 8, everything that pops or makes a loud kaboom (fireworks, backfires, hell popping gum!) makes him so nervous & frightened. tenzin doesn't really fear the noise but will bark to alarm us. nina is very much afraid herself. earlier she hid her head under a chair while the rest of her 90 lbs mass of pitbull muscles were hanging out. she was nestled next to mac on the floor. we just heard an awesome peal of thunder that jolted even me. summertime brings a lot of these storms, not to mention fireworks for the 4th upcoming. it is a hard time for dogs. also a hard time for overlords like myself who worry when the dogs are shaking, crying & are otherwise unconsolable. it is too hot for them to sit on me, like sometimes help. so they just sit or hide nearby until they are convinced that the storm has passed. poor buddies.
