i feel strangely good after stretching last night with quan tuo. first off, that madman did a doubleheader yesterday - training both day & night classes. we stretched again last night (although i'll aim to do it before the shower tonight instead!). we work on specific stretches & stances & transitions: gongbu to pubu back & forth, pidgeon stretch (which i need desperately), zhengtitui stretch. we both need this as he is training so often & i (sadly) am not at all. not til next week anyway but still we are going to stretch every night, however possible. it's working out my groin injury, for lack of a better term. also ripping into my arse muscles something fierce & my knees (precious knees)!
i also learned some of xuanshi [hee3], footwork is important! although i have to take larger steps!
quan tuo is training every day now. i am so jealous & very happy for him! i wish i could train everyday, just for one week, to see how i feel. he is definitely sore & that is expected yet he keeps going. so cool. i suppose he is lucky that he can get massages most every night...
oh so many more stretches to do, things to practice, new things to learn & drill, not to mention the continuing sharpening of movements already learned but needs work.
his straddle split is really low now. although i am more limber than he is naturally, i cannot get as low as he is. one day i will! the wood floors help & hinder simultaneously. i feel myself sliding out of control into a more painful stretch!
then there is the tucking in of the arse for mabu. it seems so unnatural to tuck your arse in but it must be so to do mabu correctly. i had the same problems with tai chi. is it a girl thing?
also i have to remember to breathe! the pain is sometimes so sharp that i find myself holding my breath or so quan tuo reminds me to breathe since i am focused on the painful owwie.
he also reminded me to make sure after the stretch portion of class, especially the 3 man stretch that i should do the axe kick or is it a crescent? before waibaitui to open the hips out. i needed that reminder!
